Reminder: The PTCA groups from our OCSU schools are planning a collaborative retreat event on May 14th from 6:00-8:00, and all community members are invited! The focus of the retreat will be on building upon the good work that our PTCA groups are doing now and determining best practices as we move into next year. 8th graders worked with Art Laplante to design a side table. Students, Art and staff at E.M. Browns helped assemble the table, while students chose the finish and stained it. This process started in October and has finally completed! E.M. Browns donated all of the materials and a significant amount of time to complete the project. 8th graders will be raffling off this side table to earn money for their upcoming class trips. Tickets are $5 each and will be on sale from April 11 - May 3. The drawing will take place at the end of Barton's Craft Fair on May 3.

A little fun was had at Barton this April Fool's Day. Ms. Doucet taught our kindergarteners about April Fool's in the morning but by afternoon when they received their "I Spy" sheet, they had forgotten about the trickery. Turns out, none of the items listed were in the pictures. Silly Ms. Doucet had them all stumped for a few minutes. Ms. Bry came into the office to a missing chair - in it's place - a first grade seat. Mr. Dobler headed out to recess duty and a few 7th grade students (with permission) turned all the desks upside down. We love a good laugh. Tell us about your harmless little pranks from April 1st!

Did you know that Barton Graded is a VSAC GearUp school? This partnership give us access to dedicated and highly trained outreach counselor. Their counselors provide group and individual information, support, and counseling on career and postsecondary readiness. Each counselor works closely with school personnel to provide access and opportunities to students Additional opportunities include: • college visits • career exploration and exposure • academic enrichment programs • financial literacy and financial knowledge The last visit we had from our VSAC Counselor, students watched an inspirational speech from Matthew McConaughey and reflected on how what he said applies to them and their own lives and how they deal with challenges. Everybody Wins! Vermont is a statewide reading mentoring program. Here at Barton school, 5 children read with their mentors every week throughout the school year. In honor of National Mentoring Month, Everybody Wins! is raffling off a gorgeous quilt made and donated by our Claremont Site Coordinator, Toni Williams. The drawing is Friday February 14th. It was a beautiful first day of winter activities for our Barton Tigers! Here are some pictures from Burke Mountain. We look forward to hitting the slopes again on January 28th.
